"Pic du Midi de Bigorre" is located in the Hautes Pyrénées district at an altitude of 2877 meters (9440 feet). It is famous for hosting an a astronomical observatory and a television relay.

Located in the French Pyrénees mountains, near Bagnères-de- Bigorre city, its advanced situation on this mountain range allows a panoramic view of the whole chain. Webcam

It can be reached via a hiking trail or by a cable car from La Mongie city.

This cable car is divided in two sections.

  • First section, between La Mongie (1800 meters alt.) and Le Taoulet (2300 meters alt.) uses several pylons.

  • Only one is needed on the second section between Le Taoulet and Pic du Midi (2872 meters alt.). The cable is 2550 meters long  between Le Taoulet  and this pylon, located close to the summit station.

A few years ago, an helicopter landing pad was available on the site. It will be present on the scene.
It will be integrated into the scene which will offer full compatibility with FS2004 and FSX, provided you installed  "Pyrénées Atlantiques BasePack" by France VFR in your version of Microsoft Flight Simulator ®

After nearly 1200 hours of modeling, the Observatoire du Pic du Midi de Bigorre is nearing completion. I am pleased to present the latest screenshots.

The mixing of textures on top of the mountain is not what I had hoped to achieve, it requires a very complex work. So I preferred this solution to avoiding a sharp transition continuity blur to bring close to reality.

The FS9 version will be available shortly. For FSX, a few edits are still needed to fit this version.
