Quite a few lighthouses are named "La Jument". But this is the most famous one, located in Ouessant at Iroise sea.
Thanks to a legacy by Charles Eugene POTRON, a Paris Geographic Society member, it was built between 1904 and 1911 on Ar Garzec ( the mare in Breton language) reef.
Should it have been built beforehand, the english vessel Drummond Castle sinking in 1896 would have been avoided with its 297 casualties and 3 survivors.
The captain's judging error lead the ship to the "Pierres Vertes" rocks, west of Molène Island.
It was automated on July 26th 1991.
A great part of "L'Equipier" movie story takes place in "La Jument".
